How To Create Maps For Rural Territories | Creating the best assistant for your territory

Create beautiful legible maps for your congregation even in rural areas with Territory Servant your congregation assistant.

The Problem:

Because rural territories are quite large in size, when a map zooms out to cover the whole area the streets have either disappeared or are so small you can barely see them.

The Solution

Manually add the street names as captions in the map editor.

How to do it

  1. Go to your territory and open the map editor.
  2. Add your roads using the Add Road Tool
  3. Right click on the roads that you just created to open the Overlay Menu
  1. You will see a textbox that says Caption in it, click into it and type the name of the street.
  2. Click Save
  3. After saving click on the print button.
  4. There is a section in the Help Page that explains the print options in greater detail, however you can use the caption size option to adjust the font size of the caption.
  5. Click Create to preview the map. Then Print To download it.

Caveats

There is a particular way to add your roads, if done incorrectly the captions may appear upside down or reversed. However it is simple to do correctly and I will demonstrate that below

Always draw left to right

The caption is draw onto the line similarly to how we would write our name on a line. However the software only know the start of the road (Where you first click when you added the road) and the end (Where you double clicked to finalize the road). The software will always think that the start of the road is where the caption should start and the end of the road is where the caption will end.

Below are some images that will illustrate this example
